EU Congratulates Buhari, Lauds Jonathan for Consolidating Democracy"
The European Union Commission has congratulated the President-elect, General Muhammad Buhari on his success in the presidential elections adding that it looks forward to working with him.
The body also expressed appreciation to President Goodluck Jonathan for consolidating democracy over the past five years.

issued in Brussels paid tribute to Nigerians for showing how a democracy
can work.
“Nigerians can now look forward to focussing on the many challenges and opportunities that lie ahead of the country. The European Union has been a close partner for Nigeria over the past 50 years, and will continue to support its development and to share its values in promoting peace, prosperity and democracy on the continent and in the world,” she said in the statement.
“I warmly congratulate General Buhari as the successful Presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), and all those who have gained seats in the Senate or the House of Representatives, of all parties. I acknowledge the candidates that have conceded defeat gracefully,” she added.
Mogherini also called on those who wish to contest results to do so through the appropriate procedures already laid down, and added that the EU Election Monitoring Mission will remain in Nigeria to monitor the elections for Governors on 11 April.
She expressed hope that the elections the Governorship and Houses of Assembly elections would be conducted in the same peaceful and democratic spirit as the presidential elections.
“I thank outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan for his great contribution to building the country and to consolidating its democracy over the past five years, and look forward to working with the newly elected President and his government in the future,” the statement read.
