Buhari’s 12 million jobs and other promises"

Buhari’s 12 million jobs and other promises"
The All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, who won the contest, in line with pre-election prognosis, was known to have remarkably deflated the current state of many key sectors during his campaigns.
That informed his vow to prioritize many areas that have become increasingly important to the electorate.
Retrospectively, the areas Buhari, who received substantial jabs from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the days leading to the poll, promised to focus on include: Security, education, unemployment, economy, health care, social security, infrastructure, energy, environment, human capital development, politics and governance.
A breakdown showed the then presidential hopeful being specific on how some of these sectors would be fixed within time frame, while time line was not attached to others.
Security
Buhari had, during his various campaign stops, said the present government had not responded appropriately to the wave of terrorism in the country.
Hence, he said the Boko Haram insurgency would be tackled before any other thing.
‘’The fundamental problem facing this country now is security. I pledge to tackle the Boko Haram crisis if elected, ‘’ he noted.
Economy

On the nation’s economy, rated the largest and fastest growing in Africa, he pledged to create a market-based economy.
Buhari said such economy would be operated with clear unambiguous regulatory framework and effective enforcement mechanism.

The then APC presidential candidate envisaged that it would help Nigerians participate and engage in productive economic activities, in order to revamp the economy.
He promised to ensure diligent implementation of annual budgets to guarantee accountability and transparency in public resource management.
Stablization of the Naira

There was also the promise of stabilizing the naira if elected. He pledged to do that by ensuring that the country’s currency is equal to the dollar.
Health
The blueprint for the health sector involves the transformation through the provision of modern equipment, qualified personnel and adequate drugs.
His party also pledged free maternal and child health care.
Corruption
The president-elect, who is a known anti-corruption crusader, at most campaign stops, assured that he would wipe out corruption.
He was of the opinion that if Nigeria doesn’t kill corruption, it would kill the country.
Unemployment
At a campaign rally in Kano and other places, he promised to create three million jobs yearly to solve the problem of unemployment.
In addition, his then running mate, Prof Yemi Osibanjo, at a campaign rally in Akure, pledged 20,000 jobs yearly totaling 720,000.
He also wants to make all who looted the treasury return what they allegedly stole.
Energy

He hopes to ensure steady power supply so as to resuscitate local industries which he described as dying.
Infrastructure
Buhari plans to complete moribund road projects and improve infrastructural development nationwide especially in the war ravaged North-East.
In line with these and other assurances, expectations are rife about the feasibility of achieving some within the life span of the incoming administration.
Eminent Nigerians, who spoke to Sunday Vanguard, differed on how best to achieve some of the key goals, while others were unanimous in their belief that Buhari would bring to reality most of the pledges.
Those who made their positions known include Professor Tam David-West, former Minister of Petroluem; Dr. Sam Ekeh, Presidential candidate of Citizens Popular Party, CPP; Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, Commissioner of Police (rtd), Dr Yunusa Tanko; Chairman of National Conscience Party,NCP, and President Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC; Prof Idowu Sobowale, a former Head, Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos and Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, and Mr. Olumide Akinatyo. President, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, PSN.
Walfare and better equipment
Speaking on Buhari’s promise of defeating terrorism, Tsav said: “The issue of equipping the military should be taken seriously. He should ensure that the military is well equipped and well motivated. That would ensure better results from them. The Mobile Police should also be better equipped to carry out their duties. The senior officers should always visit those in the frontline to boost their morale.
“It is important to not to always allow the troops to stay long when they are deployed. They should be changed every three months. Contracts for military equipment should be strictly handled by the military because they know what they want. Civilians should not be involved in the contract execution. I am hopeful that he will do well.”

LGAs should be involved in job creation
On job creation and the oil sector, Tanko stated: “His promise on job creation is the simplest thing to do if he would put round pegs in round holes.”
Highlighting how that can be achieved, the NCP leader said: “For him to achieve, he must make sure that job creation is not done at the state capitals alone. We have about 774 local governments in Nigeria. All that he needs to do is to allow local governments create jobs at their level. If that is done, I am sure the unemployment challenge will be reduced drastically.
“People, who supervised employment processes in the past, did it on sentiment; now that he has been elected, the removal of all the challenges that had made the unemployment rate alarming should be done if he must achieve his objectives in that area. I believe he can do that.”
Challenges in health sector

On his part, Akintayo said: “The starting point for anyone that wants to fix the health sector is to address the avalanche of problems arising from appointments in the sector. The other one is the supervisory role of the Ministry of Health where the current administration appointed two medical doctors as ministers. That is wrong because it reduced the ministry to a ministry of doctors. It did not carry other health workers in the sector along.

“Appointments in health sector should be done to do justice to every professional in the sector. The business of health is like every other one where everyone is carried along for good results. If he is going to succeed in his targets in the health sector, there should be universal health coverage which encompasses social health insurance. It depends on how he wants to achieve his goals. “
The PSN boss added: “The normal practice all over the world is to embrace preventive health care. That should be his cardinal goal but it can only be achieved through a functional primary health care system. Unfortunately, the primary health care system in the country is skewed in a manner that it will not disturb the status quo. If he must succeed, all professionals must be involved.”
Building four refineries possible

On the possibility of building four new refineries in four years, David-West responded thus: “That is very possible. All he promised to do in that sector are possible.”
Eke, the CPP presidential candidate, who contested last weekend’s poll, in his submission, said: “I want to congratulate Buhari irrespective of how any body feels. His victory is as a result of consistency and perseverance . His victory shows that our democracy has arrived like that of Ghana. Nigerians were not fed up with the President, but the way things are being done by those around the President. The issue now should not be on his promises, Nigerians should brace up for the times ahead. We must not deny the fact that oil which is the mainstay of our economy is no longer selling at high prices. And his government will face that challenge.”

Bracing up for the times ahead
He added: “There is no government that is Father Christmas, so he will face so many challenges. Therefore, for him to be able to do the things he wants to do, our currency must be devalued. Buhari’s promises should not be the issue now, because he has got a lot of work to do. The first thing I want him to do is to reduce the cost of governance. That should be done by reducing the recurrent expenditure for there to be economic growth and developmental growth. If we achieve this, the common man will feel the impact of the country’s economic growth rather than the statutory figures of economic development that we are being deceived with.
“Buhari should be given a chance because he is going to start his administration with a budget he did not initiate. As a true democrat, he has to implement it. I don’t expect him to perform miracle in the next one year because he has a tough job ahead.”
He will do well on education

When confronted with Buhari’s pledges on the education sector, Sobowale was upbeat that the duo of Buhari and Osinbajo would revive the sector.
He said: “ The Buhari /Osinbajo administration should revisit the education policy of the country. The sector must be steered to meet the 21st century demands. The educational infrastructure across the states of the federation should be of utmost importance.”

President Jonathan: Africa’s Man Of The Year"

President Jonathan: Africa’s Man Of The Year"
Conscientious Leader. Nigerian Patriot. African Exemplar
-Attorney Patryk Utulu**
My team and I have spent the last 3 days researching every “leadership transition” in the 54 nations of Africa starting since Libya (1951) and Egypt (1952) became the first African nations to gain political independence. (Yes, we researched Ethiopia too, starting from Emperor Haile Selassie, even though Ethiopia was already a nation for over 1000 years before Jesus was born).
What did we find?

That fewer than 18 African leaders have ever voluntarily handed over power to their successors. YES, FEWER THAN 18 OUT OF OVER 225 AFRICAN LEADERS!!!
It is always difficult to disprove a negative: like forcing a man to demonstrate that he was never pregnant. So we grant the dim diversity that from either ignorance, mischief, malice or primitive inability to be gracious some Nigerians will continue to spew the willful delusion that voluntarily giving up power is so politically normal. Those are also likely to be the same people who, for the past six years, have publicly spurted hate-filled certainty that nothing but political evil schemes should ever be expected from President Goodluck Jonathan. Granted, there is no law against primitive arrogance. But Nigerians should know that it does not matter what the naysayers say or believe. The judgment of the world has been swift. Global political stakeholders and historians have already released their combined first draft and rendered their dispassionate conclusion: that President Jonathan’s voluntary decision to put his nation’s well-being above his personal ambition saved thousands of Nigerian lives and averted what could easily have morphed into Nigerian Civil War II. Greater heroism our nation has never known.

FACTS MUST BE AS STUBBORN AS SOME PEOPLE ARE DELUSIONAL: So Nigerians must be reminded of our history of violent transitions of political power. We are a nation of homicidal coup plotters. There are those who would keep pretending that Dr. Jonathan gave up power because this election showed a mandate. A fair win is a fair win but Gen. Muhammadu Buhari merely won a plurality. Regardless, even indisputable national mandates have NOT always guaranteed peaceful transfers of political power. On June 12, 1993, Chief MKO Abiola won the freest and fairest all-corners-of-Nigeria presidential election. Rather than the Presidency however, he was harassed, jailed, tortured and then murdered.

BUT THE 2015 ELECTION HAS BRUTALLY HONEST MESSAGES FOR ALL NIGERIANS. THAT: (1): the notion of ONE-NIGERIA IS NOW AND FOREVER IRREVERSIBLY DAMAGED; (2) Party-APC is now the party of the Nigerian North-East and North-West while Party-PDP is now the party of the South-East and South-South; (3) the Christianity versus Islam leadership divisions within the South-West AND the Christianity versus “Geography” confusion within the Middle Belt (North-Central) have crystallized to the point that these two political zones will henceforth provide enough political battle ground to enable APC and PDP to keep pretending that there would ever again be a President of ALL Nigerians; and (4) come election times SOME Nigerians will never again be citizens of ALL parts of Nigeria. (Humans do not voluntarily give up winning formulas: once violence and credible threat of violence backed by unpunished deadly consequences resulted in the disenfranchisement of political opponents, the terror tactic is here to stay).

President N. Azikiwe (1960-1966) – Overthrown: Military coup
Prime Minister T. Balewa (1960-1966) Overthrown/Killed: Military coup
Maj-Gen. JT Aguiyi-Ironsi (1966-1966) Overthrown/Killed: Military coup
General Y. Gowon (1966-1975) Overthrown: Military coup
General M. Mohammed (1975-1976) Overthrown/Killed: Military coup
Maj-Gen. O. Obasanjo (1976-1979) Resigned voluntarily***
President S. Shagari (1979-1983) Overthrown: Military coup
Maj-Gen. M. Buhari (1983-1985) Overthrown: Military coup
General I. Babangida (1985-1993) Forced Out: intra-Military squabble
Chief E. Shonekan (1993-1993) Overthrown: Military coup
General S. Abacha (1993-1998) Died in office: poisoning suspected
General A. Abubakar (1998-1999) Resigned***
President O. Obasanjo (1999-2007) Resigned involuntarily
President U. Yar’Adua (2007-1010) Died in office: natural causes.

Now, President (Dr.) Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (2010-2015). Our impunity and primitive blood-lust data is shown in black and white, above. Military coups and killing of our leaders have been so rampant that giving up power peacefully has been almost un-Nigerian. Undeniably General Buhari’s victory is a victory for our democracy but, please, let’s STOP pretending that President Jonathan giving up power voluntarily and peacefully is not a big deal. It is a big deal worldwide. It is a big deal for an African leader so to do. It is an even bigger deal in our nation of violent military coups. Our history is both raw and recent. After all it is NOT as if Nigerians have forgotten the bloodletting and lives lost after the 2011 election.
Therefore, as Chinua Achebe would have harshly whispered: a nation whose democracy has been strengthened and citizens’ lives spared by the selfless act of a great man should, at a minimum, not forget to be silently thankful.

B-R-E-A-K-I-N-G News!!! Oba Of Lagos Locks Up IdumotaTraders Shops And Orders Them To Go To Ambode's Rally.

B-R-E-A-K-I-N-G News!!!
Oba Of Lagos Locks Up IdumotaTraders Shops And Orders Them To Go To Ambode's Rally.
**Oba's thugs ordered us to shut our shops. They gave us 10 minutes to Lock and join waiting Buses to Ambode's rally in Orile

Hundreds of shop owners, especially of Igbo, were reportedly forced to shut-down their shops at the Idumota Market, Lagos Island and ordered to go and join the APC candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode .
This is coming when the Lagos monarch is under heavy criticism for threatening to deal with Igbo residents of Lagos if they ddid not vote for his APC candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode.

One of the traders in an sms message to reporters said, “We arrived Idumota market to our shops as early as 8am. Shortly after, some thugs came, ordering us shut our shops on the orders of Oba Akiolu. They gave us 10 minutes to hurriedly close shops and join the waiting vehicles parked in front of his palace, and heading to Orile, venue of Ambode’s campaign led by the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.”
Some of the Igbo traders who deal on pharmaceutical products in the market said when they arrived the market, some messengers informed them that Oba Akiolu ordered everyone to close shop and join buses numbering over 100.

A Pharmaceutical products dealer, said: “We were shocked at what happened today (Tuesday) in Idumota market. When we got to the market, we were caught unawares by a purported order from the Oba of Lagos, directing all traders to close shop and join a bus heading for Ambode’s campaign.
“We were shocked by this directive, because we were never informed the previous day (Monday) about this directive. More worrisome is the fact that I lost millions of Naira because of this self-serving coercion by the Oba.”

Another pharmaceutical products dealer, said: “I feel this recent forceful directive by the Oba is in fulfillment of his recent threat to deal with Ndigbo if they fail to vote for his preferred candidate. But as far as I am concerned, no amount of threat or coercion will deter me from making my choice at the forthcoming governorship election in Lagos State.”
Some Igbo traders view the monarch’s order as not unconnected with the campaign of Ambode in the Orile axis of the state. President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and other APC national leaders were in Lagos today to lead the campaign train. - Hope For Nigeria.

Cheers as Ugwuanyi takes campaigns to streets, markets"

Cheers as Ugwuanyi takes campaigns to streets, markets"
Apparently relieved and reinvigorated following the validation of his candidature through the judgment of an Abuja High Court on March 2, Enugu State Peoples Democratic Party,PDP,governorship candidate, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, weekend, took to the streets and markets propagating the programmes, policies of his administration if elected April 11.
The National Chairman of PDP,Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu had during the presidential rally in Enugu held at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium described Ugwuanyi as the,”most popular governorship candidate PDP had ever had since 1999″.

Mu’azu’s description of Ugwuanyi’s blistering popularity was again, at play when Ugwuanyi and his running mate,Mrs. Cecilia Ezeillo and other party officials visited Aria,Timber,Abakpa,Ogbete markets in Enugu metropolis, disseminating programmes and polices of his administration hinged on,”Consolidation and Continuity” of the Governor Sullivan Chime-led administration.
A mammoth crowd trailed the campaign train as they visited the major markets in the state even as the traders closed shops in support and solidarity of his governorship ambition.
A discerning look at the components of the crowd depicts that women thronged the campaign venues massively giving a new horizon beckoning for women empowerment in the state. The women were auspiciously excited and full of expectation on the plank of Ugwuanyi’s deputy, who they see as a good representation of the womenfolk and who could help to address challenges facing them.
Spokesperson of the Traders and Chairman of Timber Market Association, Chief Levi Obi revealed that, “Ugwuanyi was an experienced hand who has knowledge of the needs of the people and expressed confidence in his ability to address them satisfactorily.
“We are also confident that Ugwuanyi would fulfill his promises to us especially in the provision of essential amenities and infrastructure in the markets.
“I therefore call on all to come out en masse on April 11 to vote for Ugwuanyi and other candidates of the PDP.”

Chairman, Enugu Unity Forum, EUF, Mr. Tahil Ochi whose organsiation has been frontal towards the realisation of Ugwuanyi’s governorship ambition urged other governorship aspirants in the party to make sacrifices in the interest of peace and progress of the party.
His words:”The massive followership Ugwuanyi enjoys is a testament that he is the peoples choice. Every other member of the party should queue behind him and support his ambition. “The important thing is that Chime in the spirit of equity, justice and fair play zoned and supported the emergence of his successor from Enugu-North senatorial zone that had not produced a governor. All the litigants should shed their sword and support Ugwuanyi whom the court has vindicated.”
In his address, Ugwuanyi assured the traders that he will make frantic efforts to provide basic amenities in the market such as roads, fire-fighting equipment, electricity and portable water supply to improve their services and comfort.

He also promised that his administration will constitute a committee that will ensure that these amenities were provided, adding that he also would provide ultra-modern machines to enhance efficiency and productivity in the market in line with international standards.
A copious peep at the political crystal ball depicts that PDP may well be coasting home with victory as no other political party in state is seriously campaigning to woo voters ahead of the gubernatorial election.
It is left to be seen how Ugwuanyi, if elected, will meet the peculiar challenges of all his support groups that dot Enugu firmament with the burgeoning depth profile in state and dwindling federal allocation.

Extract from a Press Conference addressed by the Chairman of the South South PDP Forum, Lagos State, in reaction to Oba Rilwan Akiolu statement to the indigbo living in Lagos

Extract from a Press Conference addressed by the Chairman of the South South PDP Forum, Lagos State, in reaction to Oba Rilwan Akiolu statement to the indigbo living in Lagos.
The Nigeria of our dreams is one where no tribe, race or people will be treated as second-class citizens nor as inferior all because they belong to a section of this country. One in which everyone is free and at liberty to live and do business freely, aspire to any office and vote for any candidate of his/her choice without fear of recrimination, intimidation, discrimination and victimization by a cartel, clique or institution whose interest is under threat of obliteration.

This position is reinforced by the recent hate-statement and threat issued by the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwanu Akiolu, that any non-Yoruba speaking individual who votes for the PDP will die in the Lagoon (ThisDay, and sun Newspapers of 6th April, 2015) such ignominious statement emanating from a supposed Royal father is not only reprehensible, capable of fanning the ambers of disunity and ethno-religious conflict but also portraying him as a mouthpiece of the APC, a biased umpire, an irredeemable sycophant and a Stooge of APC.

We charge all non-Yoruba speaking people(South South, South East and the Arewas) in Lagos to come out and vote overwhelming for Jimi Agbaje come 11th April 2015 for a Lagos of dream.
Thank you
Engr Sunday Ekanem

Oba of Lagos should apologise to igbos Now says Falana"

Oba of Lagos should apologise to igbos Now says Falana"
Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), on Tuesday, said Oba Rilwan Akiolu’s diatribe was a diversionary threat to igbos, which he described as unacceptable and a mockery of the political objective of national integration.
He then told the Oba of Lagos to apologise to the Igbo people in Lagos “without delay” over his controversial statement.
During a courtesy visit by Eze Ndigbos (Igbo traditional rulers) of all the local governments in Lagos at the Oba’s Palace on Sunday, Mr. Akiolu had said that Igbo residents in the state should cast their votes for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Akinwunmi Ambode, or “perish inside the lagoon.”
.
“It is illegal as it clearly offends Section 42 of the Constitution which has prohibited discrimination on grounds of ethnicity, religion, political opinion, creed or sex,” said Mr. Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
“Although the Oba lacks the power to cause anyone to ‘die in the Lagoon within seven days,’ the threat constitutes a violation of the fundamental right of thousands of citizens to life.
“In the case of Director-General of State Security Service v Olisa Agbakoba (1999) 3 N.W.L.R (PT 595) 314 it was held by the Supreme Court that ‘It is not in dispute that the Constitution gives every Nigerian citizen the right to move throughout Nigeria and to reside in any part thereof. It also guarantees to the citizen the right not to be expelled from Nigeria nor be refused entry or exit therefrom.’
“Since the residency right of every citizen is constitutionally guaranteed the Igbo people in Lagos should discountenance the threat of Oba Akiolu.”

The monarch came under severe criticism on Monday, as christian groups and opposition politicians lambasted him for his utterance.
Mr. Falana reminded the Oba that Lagos had continued to provide accommodation for Nigerians from all walks of life, a reason he said accounted for the absence of ‘abandoned properties’ in the state after the civil war.

“From time to time, armed militants and other misguided youths who unleash mindless violence on ‘non indigenes’ have always been called to order by the Government and the people of Lagos State,” Mr. Falana said.

“Indeed, the human-rights community has always kicked against discriminatory policies and ensured that all victims of human rights abuse are defended and protected regardless of their ethnic identity.
“As a senior lawyer, Oba Akiolu ought to have realized that the Electoral Act has not conferred powers on any traditional ruler or any other authority to sanction anyone for voting for a candidate of his or her choice in any election conducted in Nigeria.

“After all, before the just concluded presidential election the Oba adduced reasons why he could not endorse the presidential candidate of the APC, General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd.). He was not harassed or intimidated for exercising his freedom of choice.
“Since the Electoral Act, 2010 as amended has banned any form of hate campaign the Oba is advised to withdraw the threat credited to him and apologize publicly to the Igbo people without any delay.”

Buhari : This Is Not The People’s Victory,"

Buhari : This Is Not The People’s Victory,"
Few years ago, one of my student stood up in the middle of a lecture and asked, ‘Sir, who owns Nigeria?’ I was teaching a topic on colonialism and it could have been easy for me to answer, the British, but that would have been appropriate if only we were still under colonial rule. Its been decades since we exchanged the union jack for the green and white flag to enjoy self-government.

The question though simple to a layman, is pregnant with meanings. First, this student having assessed the society he lives in, have come to question the principle of democracy, the mode of governance and the political power play in the process of winning election. He has come to doubt the overblown theory of self governance, independence and strength of an elected political office holder. He sees an illusion in democracy and as a world of make believe, where twisted public perception either true or falsereign supreme. He sees the people as a pawn, played and tossed by some power brokers towards a selfish end.
Few days ago, Nigeria went to the poll in an election that saw the incumbent President, Goodluck Jonathan losing the race for a return ticket to the opposition candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari and in an unprecedented reaction that shocked the world, Mr. Jonathan conceded defeat saving Nigeria, West Africa and by extension the entire continent from going into flames.

With the emergence of General Buhari, the word on the street of Nigeria now is victory. The people seems to have found hope, placing upscale level of trust on the war veteran to make life better as soon as possible.
But while the people continue to rejoice over what they termed ‘Our votes, counts’ it is imperative to state without holding back that the defeat of Goodluck Jonathan isn’t the victory of the electorates. Yes, the people voted for a man of their choice but the question of who/what made that man their choice remains unanswered.

The need to have Mr. Jonathan out of Aso Rock became heightened on 31st August 2013 when seven Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party and the former Vice President walked out of the party’s convention, hence forming the ‘New PDP’. It should be noted that even though the opposition parties had already merged to form the All Progressive Congress (APC) the effect of an opposition party wasn’t so impactful until the NewPDP joined it. For those who understand a bit about Nigeria’s presidential power play, some of the key factors that determine the making or marring of any occupant of that position is his relationship with the ‘Five Pillars’ of Nigeria namely General Theophilus Danjuma, Ibrahim Babangida, Emir of Kano, Olusegun Obasanjo and the Oil Mafias. Unfortunately for President Jonathan, all these individuals stood against him.

Some may argue that the records of General Buhari and his undoubted anti-corruption stand gave him the edge against the President but these individuals must ask themselves if these records were not in public domain when he contested and lost the election three times?
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for sixteen years has had the opportunity to govern the country not because it is well structured or so accepted but because the real owners of the country still controls the party. The moment these individuals lost their proxy grip, the party became a shadow of itself.
Democracy is about public perception, it is the ability to sell yourself to the electorates and make them believe in your plans but that’s where it starts and ends. The ability of the people to understand, accept and believe in this messages resides exclusively with some set of individuals.
The March 28, 2015 presidential election wasn’t won in polling booths and through ballot papers but at a round table meeting where the best of wine and foods were served.
General Muhammadu Buhari may seem to represent the desire of the electorates but that can only be proven with decisions he makes within the first few months of his administration.
This is a victory for democracy, it is a good step for politics but it isn’t a victory for the people per say but rather a change of garment for the ‘Five Pillars’.

Igbos May Lose Senate Presidency, Laments Okorocha"

Igbos May Lose Senate Presidency, Laments Okorocha"
# gov Okorocha is a traitor of the Indigbos # Indigbos must Say no to the APC and Okorocha # Okorocha was there election in Kano, Jigawa and Kaduna State?
Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, on Thursday lamented that the Igbo might lose the chance of producing the next Senate President, except the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidates, regain their mandates that was stolen by the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The state governor blamed Igbo leaders in the South-east zone for the unfortunate situation, adding that their selfishness and lack of vision have kept Ndigbo in the back sit of the nation’s politics, despite their contributions to the overall development of the country.

Okorocha, who addressed South-east APC leaders and supporters at the Imo International Convention Centre, in Owerri, the state capital, stated: “It is very painful for the Igbo to lose the position of the Senate President after been denied any leading position in the country for a long time because our political leaders and office holders used their position to rig out APC candidates in the election.
“We saw it coming and we told the political leaders why Ndigbo should embrace the APC but they could not believe us but today the story has changed and the PDP they have been following all these years with nothing to show for it is now an opposition party.”

The governor however assured the APC supporters that the hope of Igbo man becoming the Senate President was not totally lost, as he vowed that the APC would reclaim the stolen mandate given to it by the people who were desirous for change.
According to him, “There was no election in the entire South-east on March 28. The PDP leaders with the aid of the military and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) intimidated and harassed our people and thereafter wrote the results in their homes but I assure you that all hope is not lost because we are going to recover our stolen mandate.”

He also accused the security agencies and the INEC of influencing the outcome of the just concluded presidential and National Assembly elections results in favour of the PDP in the state.
Insisting that the APC won the March 28 presidential and National Assembly polls in the state, Okorocha specifically accused the military of intimidating the voters, stating that the people of the state are battle ready to confront the security agencies if the alleged harassment is repeated again.
He commended President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding victory to the APC presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari and advised him not to succumb to the advice of some members of his party to contest the outcome of the elections in court.

RIVERS: Sekibo, Nwogu, Ideozu, Others For New NASS"

RIVERS: Sekibo, Nwogu, Ideozu, Others For New NASS"
ALL the three senatorial and House of Representatives candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who contested in the March 28 National Assembly election in Rivers State won their seats.
In Rivers East, the incumbent George Sekibo, who is the Senate Committee chairman on Defence and Army, won with 662278 votes, to defeat the All Progressives Congress candidate, Andrew Uchendu, who polled 52064. Sekibo has been a member of the Senate since 2007 and is considered one of the most resourceful members of the Upper legislative chamber.
He sponsored the motion on the Mandatory Installation of the Emergency Locator Transmitter Beacon 406MHz in all Aircraft. Sekibo also presented a bill for the Establishment of Mining Cadastre Office, Bill 2008. He said this Bill, though withdrawn due to some technical details, helped create awareness and bring to the front burner immediate need for the establishment of the Mining Cadastre Office, as provided by the Minerals and Mining Act 2007.
It is also on record that he presented a motion on Unauthorized Expenditure and Misapplication of Funds from the Development of Natural Resources Fund. The motion led to the Senate Resolution mandating the Committee to commence investigation of unauthorized expenditure misapplication of funds from the Development of Natural Resources Fund.
Some serious revelations have been made and further expenditure from the fund put on hold. A former House of Representatives member, Olaka Nwogu, has been elected to represent Rivers South East senatorial district.
He polled 408353 votes to defeat incumbent Senator Magnus Abe of the APC, who had 23052. Nwogu is an experienced legislator, having represented Tai/Eleme/Oyibo federal constituency, 1999 to 2011.
The only senator elect whose legislative competence at the national arena has not been tested prior to this time is Mr. Osinakachukwu Ideozu, who won the Rivers West seat. He polled 279745 votes, to defeat the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Otelemaba Amachree of the APC, who scored 24687 votes.
Five members of the House of Representatives namely Mrs. Betty Apiafi (Abua/Odual/Ahoada East); Kingsley Chinda (Obio-Akpor); Kenneth Chikere (Port Harcourt 1); Blessing Nsiegbe (Port Harcourt 2); and Gogo Bright Tamuno (Okrika/Ogu-Bolo) are all returning to the lower legislative chamber for the second time. The other eight are all new members. They are Uche Nnam Obi (Ahoada West/Ogba/Egbema/ Ndoni); Jacobson Nbina (Tai/Eleme/Oyibo); Randolph Brown (Bonny/Degema); Boma Goodhead (Akuku-Toru/Asari Toru); Dumna Dekor (Khana/Gokana); and Emekenegwa Sunday (Ikwerre/Emohua)

Dear Corruption!!

Dear Corruption!!
How are you? It’s absurd to say Hello, you were always here, you, the incessant overbearing contrived bully.
It’s impossible for me to deduce when my contempt for you begun, I suspect quite possibly in my teenage years when you compelled me, my mates and generation, and those I looked up to, obliging you involuntarily, accommodating your chicanery and atrociousness without a second thought on how you came to be all dominating and supreme.

Your adept skills put to exceptional use, once you understood the nature of us. The nature whose constructive predisposition, you presumed very well, like a master to a disciple. We buckled at your commands because we were aware, the consequences of not obliging you were nonexistent or vague. Nonexistent, because you did your home work like the formidable adversary that you are. The residue of cooperating with you however, you sweetened and made appetizing due to our own very nature.
From the days I could discern actions, results, reactions and consequences, I can say now that it was you who lurked in the corners of my suspicions. You clever mask wearing chameleon. From my youth, I experienced you turning modesty & ease to collusion & excess. How a simple task of driving was turned into life & death decisions. The simple task of student grading was turned into morality, carnal, barter decisions by pupils.

Only you could burn a whole office complex down, change governments for selfish reason then have investments across opposing sides thus be the last one standing. You turned monks into muggers, kings to kleptomaniacs, royals to robbers, civil servants to crooks, housekeepers to house breakers, turned men into women serving bigger men. Judges and Justices into bid solicitors ready to say “SOLD” to the highest bidder.

You turned a sequestered contemporary nation on self discovery to a country of emigrants, who couldn’t escape fast enough. On their way out, you even took your pound of flesh consequently had them banished, a right to return comfortably negotiated with your disciples.
The ones you had within your grasp, you encouraged them to be traitors, emboldened them to send their wealth to the thieves who robbed them earlier of nationhood and independence. We now compete among ourselves on who could be better at being like them (Our conquerors) while making their lands ever better for them. Yep, our most awesome and brightest now develop those foreign lands.
I have come to dread you and the glamorous toxin you hawk. You dogged so much; one could not as much as exist without negotiating with you. Only you took a respectable Chairman of the editorial board of newspaper of a newspaper, a dogged fighter against all abhorrent status quo into a closemouthed amenable willing party. Wonders, as they shall never end?

You are to be appraised and recognized. To ignore you is play with fire and we know the end of that story. In recent times, many attempts have been made at your life, a few detonating devices thrown at you and you even threw some exploding ones back at us, but like the Abiku you die only to be reborn again and again. Those who tried to eliminate you forgot you left dormant embryos to be implanted to willing surrogates.
This would not have been a big deal if you did not play both sides, played Generals against Generals, Knights against Queens, Bishops against Rooks, Kings against shortsighted Pawns. It’s not preposterous to anticipate your stamina and tenacity, we have discussed this earlier.
How quite bizarre that you turned a formerly world respected military in to one looking extremely inferior next to Chad, Niger and for that matter Cameroon. You twisted a border defender into a civilian oppressor who runs away with Slippers as boots, Dane-Guns as weapons at the sound of BoKo-Haram. I couldn’t but see the Irony in our soldiers looking extremely inferior next to so called lesser nations. ALMIGHTY CORRUPTION, you are impressive.

Only in Nigeria have you succeeded in making civilians more afraid of its Police force, its military, its dreaded Customs, its ceaselessly unimaginative rotten civil service, where grown men are turned to spirit seeking, contract seeking fatalists and bums. A nation on the path of health to one without beds for the sick, where doctors seek inducement for work they ought to be paid for. Turned sight to blindness, electricity to a game of Russian roulette flipping switches and changes phases. You even turned freedom fighters into champagne sippers and mansion builders.
Who would have imagined you, an unpopular away team with few supporters turning into a crowd favorite winning championships upon championships with cheering apologists ready to defend you on flimsy deductions and thesis?

On a personal level though, I could start my own cult on how much I despise you. You were quite a success, confident and still managed to give me gray hair hoping against hope on your demise. I have written off my constituents, but as quickly as I encourage thoughts leading to this kind of dreams, I woke up and realize how bad that dream was. I refuse to believe you are the last man standing
As these new dawn approaches and you played your hands and played you did way into the deepness of these new dawn, it is my expectation that that your chess pieces start falling apart as you encounter a savvy king and like some Greek tragedies and ironies it’s impossible an quite inevitable that eventually you will over play your hands.

It is on this note that I want you to watch you’re your back.
Hello corruption, I bring you good tidings (not really), I know it’s hard to comprehend the machinations of your profound strength, but I never saw any last man standing having that much staying power. The jig may be up, even right here we see you with those cats eyes lurking in the shadows
Watch your back. You thought we, your adversaries went away? Think again.

PDP Vows To Challenge Buhari’s Victory At Tribunal

PDP vows to challenge Buhari’s victory at tribunal
# we must differentiate the party from the office of the President # there were irregularities in the election #
The Peoples Democratic Party has said it will challenge the outcome of the March 28 presidential election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, through its Chairman and Chief Returning Officer, Prof. Attahiru Jega, on Wednesday morning, declared Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.) of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the election.
The PDP through its agent at the National Collation Centre in Abuja on Wednesday, when the final result was declared, had refused to sign the result sheet despite its candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan, having earlier conceded defeat.
The agent of the PDP, Bello Fadile, who was in attendance when parties were being called upon to sign the result sheet, told journalists shortly after the result was declared that the party was not satisfied with the outcome of the election and had decided to challenge it at the election tribunal.
“Whether I sign it (the result sheet) or I don’t sign it, does not make any difference. It doesn’t invalidate the result. When we go to court, then we can challenge the result,” Fadile said.
When asked to confirm if the PDP will challenge the result at the presidential election petitions tribunal, Fadile added, “Sure! The party petitioned. Don’t forget. So the party will follow through the petition. There are rules for this. The law is there.
“The result was declared on the 1st of April, I think. We will follow the due process. Like the president (Jonathan) said, ‘If you have any grievances, follow due process and the due process in this instance is to go to the tribunal.”

Jonathan, eternal democratic hero – Alkali"

Jonathan, eternal democratic hero – Alkali"
The Presidency on Friday declared President Goodluck Jonathan as an ‘eternal hero’ and champion of democracy.
The Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Prof. Rufai Alkali, at a press conference in Abuja, said in spite of the glaring irregularities and inconsistencies of the electoral process, Jonathan threaded the path of honour by conceding to his opponent, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), even before the result was formally announced.

Alkali said, “The destinies of all great nations in the world are greatly shaped by the behaviour, attitude and actions of their leaders.
“The March 28 Presidential election, which has been described by both domestic and international observers as a defining moment in the history of Nigeria, has come and gone.
“It is an undisputable fact that the saving grace of our great country in this historic election has been the candour, conduct and comportment of President Goodluck Jonathan, who has elevated himself to the status of an eternal hero and a champion of democracy.

“This is particularly so because in spite of the glaring irregularities and inconsistencies of the electoral process, President Jonathan took the unprecedented step of conceding to his opponent, Gen. Buhari, even before the result was formally announced.”
Alkali added that Jonathan had always been passionate about the unity, progress and development of Nigeria, adding that his bold step had once more strengthened the bedrock of unity in Nigeria and had deepened democratic governance in the country.

The presidential aide stated, “It is clear that Mr. President’s participation in this contest was not for his personal interest but for the advancement of our vision of a united and prosperous Nigeria. This is precisely why he expanded the democratic space by allowing an opposition group to flourish.
“In a number of countries around the world, there are countless examples of interventions to scuttle opposition parties including systematic efforts by government to undermine their leadership.
“It is to President Jonathan’s credit that the two general elections conducted under his watch have been adjudged the best in the history of the country. He has therefore reached a moral high ground and shall continue to be a source of inspiration to all who believe in Nigeria’s democracy.”
Alkali added that there was no doubt that passions were sometimes inflamed in the course of the campaigns, but noted that the ultimate goal had always been to strengthen and develop institutions in the country.
The election, he said, was a test case for the maturity of Nigeria’s democracy.
He insisted that Jonathan had piloted Nigeria through this test in flying colours.

Pwajok Blames Jonathan's Defeat on Intrigues of PVC Distribution" # Jega aided the APC victory "

Pwajok Blames Jonathan's Defeat on Intrigues of PVC Distribution"
# Jega aided the APC victory "
Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Senator Gyang Pwajok has blamed President Goodluck Jonathan's defeat during the March 28 president election on what he described as politics of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) distribution by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Pwajok, who spoke with journalists in Jos, the state capital, believed that the outcome of the poll in which the APC candidate, Gen Mohammadu Buhari defeated President Goodluck Jonathan would have been different if INEC had ensured even distribution of PVCs across the states according to the number of registered voters.

Pwajok said: “In my ward like many other wards across the country, we had an experience where 818 people with zero registration progressed to re-register, and then when the PVC were supposed to be given to them, only eight out of the number were given. That means that over 800 people were disenfranchised by INEC and yet the person has no way of getting the PVC himself except going through the electoral body. So, it means that there was politics of distribution of PVCs which affected the outcome of the elections.”
He called on the INEC to ensure that no voter is disenfranchised during the remaining elections by allowing the use of TVC for those who don't have PVC for no fault of theirs.

The Governorship candidate also expressed confidence that the party will emerge victorious during the forthcoming governorship poll in the state, pointing out that the politics normally played at the national level is usually not the same with what obtains at the state level.
He said despite the loss of the party's presidential candidate during the last election, the party has a bright future in the state in the governorship poll.

Is This Free and Fair Election In Nigeria?

Who are the people preaching  about fighting corruption in Nigeria? May God help us.

Sokoto PDP Guber Candidate Hails Jonathan"

Sokoto PDP Guber Candidate Hails Jonathan"
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State, Senator Abdallah Wali, on Thursday lauded President Goodluck Jonathan, for exhibiting the spirit of sportsmanship by conceding defeat and congratulating the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd).
This was contained in a statement signed by the spokesman of the party in the state, Alhaji Sanusi Danmulki, a copy of which was made available to THISDAY in Sokoto.
According to the statement, it was uncommon in Africa and many parts of the world for a sitting president to not only lose an election but accept loss in good
faith and congratulate the winner.

The statement noted that with that singular action, Jonathan had proved himself a true democrat whose action ought to be emulated by all Nigerians and African politicians.
“Jonathan’s congratulations to Buhari has done so much to douse tension in the country and has averted the country’s drift into crises,’’ the statement read.
It emphasised that the action of the president was in line with his statement that his ambition was not worth the blood of a single Nigerian.

The statement to this end, commended the people of the state for the large turnout in the general election.
He called on the people of the state to consider the outcome of the election as the will of God and re-strategise for the forthcoming governorship election.
“The people of Sokoto should consider and elect the right personality to lead them as a governor based on integrity, past antecedents and not necessarily from the party he comes from,” he stated.
The statement added that it was only by doing so that the myriad of problems bedeviling the state would be solved.

Children Voters In The North??

Did these really happen? Is these real? If it's true where  is  the free and fair election then? Who is talking about corruption then? Is international community who is congratulation us saw these happened? Where did the observers did their job? Do such happened in U.S.A, Britain and other developed countries of the world and the called it free and fair election?

Girl Stabs Her Boyfriend To Death

The police in Lagos have arrested an 18-year-old lady, Kafayat Olawale, for allegedly stabbing to death her boyfriend, Ojo Ijabike, 32.
The incident happened on Friday on Olutola Adebayo Street, off Idimu Road, in the Alimosho area of Lagos State.
Investigations by PUNCH Metro revealed that Ijabike, an indigene of Owo, Ondo State, had attempted to forcefully have carnal knowledge of the suspect when there was a scuffle between them.
Olawale, who hails from Osun State, was said to have stabbed the deceased in the heart region, while the 32-year-old victim inflicted injuries on her.
The landlord of the house, who heard the noise, was said to have broken the locked door and met the duo lying in a pool of blood.
They were reportedly rushed to a private hospital in the area where Ijabike, an electrician, gave up the ghost.
When our correspondent visited the Cele Egbe area, where the suspect was an apprentice in a hairdressing salon, he met her boss, who said Olawale was tricked into Ijabike’s apartment.
The woman, who did not identify herself, said, “She is a little girl and I often tried to guide her home whenever it was late in the night. She cannot hurt a fly.
“Ojo (Ijabike) bought her a phone and she brought it to the office that morning. He called her and said he forgot the charger at home, that she should come over to pick it.
“It was the charger she went to pick when he locked the door against her and wanted to sleep with her.”
A young man, who claimed to be the “real boyfriend of the suspect”, said the deceased was not in a relationship with Olawale.
The barber, who said they had been dating since 2014, told PUNCH Metro he had warned Olawale to stop collecting gifts from the deceased.
“But she kept telling me it was just a normal friendship. I tried my best to always please her, but I am aware the guy was also giving her money and gifts and I knew his intention was not pure.
“When he bought her the phone, I frowned at it. I was told it was on Friday when she was on her way to work that he called her to come over to his place to take the charger of the phone which he forgot to give her.
“That was how he wanted to take advantage of her and things went awry,” he said.
Our correspondent visited where the incident happened on Olutola Adebayo Street and met co-tenants of the deceased.
A girl took our correspondent to the one room apartment of the deceased, which was shut.
A drama however played out when our correspondent was directed to the landlord of the house, who quickly denied being the owner of the house.
“I am new in this house and just rented a shop here. I don’t know anything and cannot say anything,” the elderly man said.
Other residents equally declined to speak with our correspondent.
PUNCH Metro subsequently visited the private hospital, where the duo was rushed to on Modupe Shittu Street.
A worker, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, explained that the deceased was still alive when he was brought to the hospital.
“When they were rushed here, they were both alive. We, however, observed that the man was stabbed in the heart region. He died soon after. The girl also sustained injuries. I learnt that it was after the girl stabbed him that he collected the knife and began stabbing her in anger,” the worker said.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the deceased had first used the weapon to threaten the suspect so she could submit to his desire.
Our correspondent was told that while the corpse of the victim was taken to the morgue, the suspect was arrested by policemen from the Ikotun division.
A police source said the suspect was stabbed more than six times in her back.
He said, “The lady was also injured. She was first hospitalised before she was arrested.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident, adding that investigations were ongoing

Obama Commends Jonathan for Conceding Elections"

Obama Commends Jonathan for Conceding Elections"
The United States President Barack Obama has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for placing the interest of Nigeria first by conceding the presidential elections and congratulating his opponent, Muhammad Buhari on his victory.

“I look forward to working with President Jonathan throughout the remainder of his term, and I thank him for his many years of service and his statesmanlike conduct at this critical juncture,“ Obama said in a statement on Wednesday.
He urged Jonathan and Buhari to repeat their calls to their supporters to continue to respect the outcomes of the elections, to focus on unifying the country, and together lead Nigeria through a peaceful transition.
“The last few days have shown the world the strength of Nigeria’s commitment to democratic principles. By turning out in large numbers and sometimes waiting all day to cast their votes, Nigerians came together to decide the future of their country peacefully,” Obama said.
