PDP, APC clash over Lagos poll results delay"

PDP, APC clash over Lagos poll results delay"
The agent of the Peoples Democratic Party for the presidential election collation in Lagos State, Mr. Wahab Owokoniran, and his All Progressives Congress counterpart, Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi, on Monday morning hotly disagreed during the collation exercise at the Independent National Electoral Commission Lagos office.
The quarrel began immediately the Collation Officer for Lagos State, Prof. Isaac Adewole, announced the suspension of the collation of the presidential poll till 8am.
Before Adewole suspended the collation of the result at 1.48am, electoral officers of four local government areas had submitted the results of their respective council areas, while the results for the remaining 16 local government areas had yet to be returned to the INEC office.
But immediately after Adewole, who is the Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, announced the suspension of the collation of the result, Owokoniran flared up and protested the decision, asking the state collation officer to explain the rationale behind the shift.
Owokoniran raised issues concerning non-arrival of the result of the election that was conducted on Saturday.
He said the result ought to have been brought to the INEC office.
According to him, result of many polling units, where PDP won, were manipulated in favour of APC.
Owokoniran also alleged that election did not take place in no fewer than 30 polling units in Epe Local Government Area of the state and yet result was declared for them.
“In some local government areas, election had been concluded two days ago. What could have delayed the collation? I suspect there are some discrepancies somewhere.
“We will not accept any result different from the one we have,” he said.
Owokoniran, however, submitted two petitions to the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Akin Orebiyi, questioning the electoral body’s collation process.
But Afikuyomi dismissed the claim, saying only INEC had the authority to announce the result of any election.
He asked Owokoniran to speak by facts, rather than making issues that could generate controversy.
Describing himself as one of those who framed the Electoral Act, Afikuyomi said, “Before we begin to make allegations about results being tampered with, without any substantial evidence or a single shred of fact, I think we must speak to facts and records.
“For instance, with regard to the result for Apapa Local Government Area, I have issues, but I will wait for us to get there. I think we watch the way we make claims because it can have serious implications.”

Electing Buhari as president, disaster for Africa –Ex US envoy"

Electing Buhari as president, disaster for Africa –Ex US envoy"
A former spokesman for four United States Ambassadors to the United Nations, Richard Grenell, has said that if former military Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, emerges as the next president of Nigeria in next Saturday’s elections, it would be a disaster for the entire African continent.
Grenell, who made the declaration in a piece titled: Nigeria on the brink, and which was published in the Washington Times, a US based publication, of Thursday, March 19, 2015, described Buhari as working tirelessly to enthrone Sharia law across the country, which he said would further pose a major challenge to the fight against terrorism in Nigeria and the continent at large.

He said, “Western foreign policy observers pre-occupied with the rise of ISIS in the Middle East should wake up to the reality unfolding in Nigeria. Opposition candidate General Buhari wants Sharia law throughout Nigeria. In fact, he wants it everywhere.
“Is this an indication that Buhari supports violence because the end goal of the terrorist attacks throughout Nigeria and Africa is an Islamic state? It is a legitimate question that should be asked by leaders of the Obama administration.

“Boko Haram has pledged its allegiance and support to ISIS. The Northern Nigerian based Islamic terrorist group wants Sharia law throughout the country and beyond. They are also actively terrorising Chad, Niger and Cameroon with their goal of an Islamic state.

“Buhari has also spoken sympathetically about members of the terrorist group Boko Haram, has cautioned against a rush to judgement on its members and has personally been selected by the terrorist group to lead its negotiations with the Government of Nigeria.

“Buhari’s election as Nigeria’s head of state would be a disaster for Africa. It would also signal trouble for the West’s fight against ISIS and terrorism throughout the Middle East.”
According to Grenell, incumbent president and Buhari’s main rival at next Saturday’s election, Goodluck Jonathan has made commendable inroads in strangling Boko Haram to submission in recent weeks and so deserves the support of the Barack Obama led United States administration and the rest of the world.
“The Nigerian economy has been growing faster than South Africa’s. Imagine what Nigeria could do for Africa if it was also free of Boko Haram’s violence. The Obama Administration should be doing more to ensure Africa’s most populous country doesn’t slip away,” he said.
Speaking further, Grenell said that with the election in Israel over, the West must quickly turn its attention to Nigeria where the outcome of next Saturday’s presidential elections could have a profound impact on the future of Africa.

“Islamic radicals have Africa on their target list and young Nigerians are reported to be interested in ISIS’ messages. Nigeria is at a tipping point. The West, and specifically the Obama Administration, needs to wake up to the growing problem,” he said.

In October 2014 during an interview with TheCable, an online news platform, Buhari had said that he was not a religious fundamentalist or extremist as his opponents had alleged and that all those trying to hang such malicious tag on him were merely attempting to demonise and tarnish his image.
“Nigerians will always uncover impossible room for manoeuvre for politicians. In 2003, I chose Chuba Okadigbo as my running mate. He was a Roman Catholic. He was an Igbo. In 2007, I picked Edwin Ume-Ezeoke. He was a Roman Catholic. He was an Igbo. And in 2010, I chose even a pastor, Pastor Tunde Bakare.
“Honestly, what do Nigerians want me to do? If they don’t believe I’m not a fundamentalist, what else can I do? The era of short-changing people in the name of religion should stop,” he had said.

Switzerland, Buhari and Abacha Loot" By Shaka Momodu

Switzerland, Buhari and Abacha Loot"
By Shaka Momodu
Having watched the presidential standard-bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, campaign around the country in the last couple of weeks, noted the emptiness and the near hollowness of the whole exercise, and having watched him garner some endorsements both from within and outside the country, I have come to the inescapable conclusion that those promoting the Buhari candidacy must have other reasons for backing him than the advertised prospect of saving Nigeria and setting it on the path of rebirth. Except we have all agreed that, it is better to settle for less, I see no plausible reason to present such shallowness as change and then proceed to premise the hope of a country’s rebirth on such disjointed motley assemblage of promises.
I however do not share the views of the change mob hysteria about Buhari because we have not been presented with the sheerest evidence to support those prepositions other than hope. Rather, my position is heavily supported by the evidence already in the public domain and further buttressed by the news last week that Candidate Buhari failed to apologise 31 years after he jailed two journalists under the jackboot of his obnoxious Decree No.4 which he used to gag and cow the press, despite claims by Professor Wole Soyinka that he had shown signs of “plausible transformation” and Buhari’s claim at Chatham House that he is a reformed dictator who has fully embraced democracy. Both claims in my view cannot pass the sniff test. Rather, what I see here is obvious deniability of the reality of who Buhari really is.

It appears the blitzkrieg rebranding of Candidate Buhari by the South-west (APC) apparatchik has only succeeded at the superficial level of creating a perception rather than reality, and that perception is what has driven the campaign thus far. But the reality is that the man being bandied around as the face of change has not changed from who he is to who or what he is not despite wearing different robes to give the veneer of “change” and “plausible transformation”. His refusal to show some atonement for sins of the past sets him apart from Mathieu Kerekou of Benin Republic who was reported to have apologised for his actions in a church. Has Buhari ever apologised for any of his actions? Not that I recall.
In the March 18, 2015 edition of THISDAY Newspaper, which reported the news of Buhari’s failure to apologise, there was another news story that caught my attention, titled: “Switzerland to return $380m Abacha loot”. The timing of the action of the Swiss authorities was particularly instructive as we go into the election. Buhari whose twin campaign sloganeering messages have been that he will fight corruption and end Boko Haram has consistently denied that Abacha stole Nigeria’s money. According to him, Abacha neither stole nor looted the country’s treasury. He described the allegations of looting against Abacha as “baseless”, because according to him, “ten years after Abacha, those allegations remain unproven because of lack of facts”. This was despite the fact that hundreds of millions of dollars had in well publicised reports been returned to Nigeria as part of the Abacha loot. Now that Switzerland is set to return another tranche of $380m, does Buhari still stand by his statement that the allegations or accusations against Abacha are “baseless” and not supported by “facts”? Here are three countries that have returned money stolen by Abacha to Nigeria. Switzerland: Switzerland had earlier returned more than $700m that the late Abacha hid in Swiss accounts and is now set to return another $380 million stolen by the dictator.
Liechtenstein: The Government of the Principality of Liechtenstein returned $227m stolen by Abacha in 2014.
Channels Island: The State of Jersey in the Channels Island is set to return £315 million (N90,040,634,775.00) to Nigeria as part of funds recovered from the late dictator, Sani Abacha. The Island had earlier returned the sum of £140m (N40,018,059,900.00) to Nigeria in two batches. But the man who has been rebranded as the face of change; the man “destined” to save Nigeria and fight corruption denies it ever happened in the face of overwhelming evidence - and stated sternly that - Abacha never stole Nigeria’s money.
Anyone who has a long memory will recall that former President Olusegun Obasanjo earned many flight miles in pursuit of Abacha’s loot. He hired international lawyers to chase those monies anywhere they may be located on planet Earth and recover them for Nigeria. Buhari was fully aware of all those efforts and yet denied Abacha ever looted the country’s coffers. The irony today is that the same Obasanjo is one of the front row supporters of Buhari-for-President in the coming election. It is most probable that Obasanjo will even deny his efforts to recover the loot considering the manner he recently dismissed the PTF report. What does this say about our leaders?
On Thursday last week, newspapers lavishly reported Buhari as saying “a corrupt government is worse than armed robbery.” Really? I chuckled - Was he kidding? I am sure his definition of a corrupt government does not include Abacha’s thieving government. Otherwise, he won’t have said the clear evidence was “baseless …unproven because of lack of facts.”
Meanwhile, the Swiss prosecutor’s office said overall, the Abacha clan was thought to have diverted about $5bn from the Nigerian treasury, adding that much of it ended up abroad.
Now the question is: should Buhari go on to win Saturday’s presidential election, it would therefore mean that, he will be the one to manage the $380m about to be returned by Switzerland. Will he hand over the money to Abacha’s family since he believes they were being wrongly hounded to return money they never stole in the first place? Will he tell the Swiss authorities to keep the money as no money was ever looted and insist on being an accessory to the fact of a conspiracy of lies and falsehood told against Abacha family? Will he demand Switzerland must apologise to the family?
This is the man now being advertised as the one who will fight corruption and “restore hope.” Anyone who denies that Abacha looted the nation’s treasury not only holds our values in contempt but does pure violence to those values.
And for the first time, and strangely so, the interests of the activists, pro-democracy groups, career critics, seasoned lawyers, ex-dictators, flawed progressives, ably supported by a vocal section of the intelligentsia have converged on a candidate - Candidate Buhari - irrespective of the records of history against him. What an irony!
As our highly revered Professor Soyinka in 2007 said when Buhari wanted to contest: “This intervention has been provoked, not so much by the ambitions of General Buhari to return to power as the head of a democratic Nigeria, as by declarations of support from directions that leave one totally dumbfounded. It would appear that some, myself among them, had been over-complacent about the magnitude of an ambition that seemed as preposterous as the late effort of General Ibrahim Babangida to aspire yet again to the honour of presiding over a society that truly seeks a democratic future. What one had dismissed was a rash of illusions, brought about by other political improbabilities that surround us, however, is being given an air of plausibility by individuals and groupings to which one had earlier attributed a sense of relevance of historic actualities.” Unfortunately today, our respected professor and wordsmith is now one of the individuals championing the crusade of the “plausible transformation” of Buhari without “rigorous inspection of the evidence”. What a turnaround!
Culled from ThisDay.

Group task Tinubu to come clean on ABC saga"

Group task Tinubu to come clean on ABC saga"
Following the injunction obtained by leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu restrainning media houses from broadcasting a documentary titled Lion of Bourdilion that was aired by African Independent Television (AIT), the Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL) has called on Sen. Tinubu to address Lagosians on the lingering issue of his relation with the consultancy firm.
The convener of the group, Comrade Debo Adeniran, further called on Lagosians not to vote any candidate that refuses to address the 15% deduction of Lagosians annual revenue, ‘we are equally flabbergasted at Sen. Bola Tinubu’s unwarranted silence on Alpha Beta issue.

We are also surprised that the APC leader went to court, to obtain an injunction, stopping the airing of the documentary about him on African Independent Television (AIT) and other media houses. He sought protection under the law that gives him respite that can sustain him for a very long time.’
He continued: ‘Beyond getting an injunction to stop the airing of his alleged misdemeanor, as an elder statesman, Sen. Tinubu is expected to come out in the open to defend the allegations if they are true or false’, CACOL stated.

The group further called on the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to make public their findings on the allegations on the True Face of Lagos as contained in its petitions.

Petroleum Minister recounts achievements in Oil and Gas sector"

Petroleum Minister recounts achievements in Oil and Gas sector"
The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke has said that the upstream sector has recorded a renewed impetus in cost management, compressed contracting cycles and a reinvigorated pursuit of the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).
Mrs. Alison-Madueke stated this while delivering her keynote address at the 2015 Nigeria Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition with the title “State of Industry: Achievements and future Direction” at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Represented by the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Dr. Joseph T. Dawha, Mrs. Alison-Madueke disclosed that in the Midstream, new Gas Pipelines are being constructed in furtherance of the Federal Government‘s Gas Development Initiatives. She noted that in the downstream sector, products supply and availability has been sustained adding that NNPC‘s Retail network has continued to expand in order to improve product availability.
The Petroleum Minister however said the accomplishments in the Oil and Gas sector have now been challenged by the current low in Oil price environment which is characterized by dramatic revenue declines.
Mrs. Alison-Madueke stated that persistent depressed Oil prices may limit the Industry scope to maneuver in growing long term production and reaching the target of 4million barrels of Crude Oil per day by 2020. In his welcome address, a board member of the Central Working Committee, Dr. Alirio Parra commended the Federal Government for its determination to transform the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry through the draft Petroleum Industry Bill which is currently before the National Assembly.

RSSSL: Election violence threat to Nigeria’s economy"

RSSSL: Election violence threat to Nigeria’s economy"
Real Strikers Security Services Limited in conjunction with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN) had commenced nationwide security awareness on electoral violence prevention and homeland security measures, saying violence during elections will destroy Nigeria’s economic future.

Managing Director, RSSSL and Project Director, Dr. Joseph E. Ameh, state that electoral violence is s product of a sordid outcome of an organised intimidation or actual molestation of perceived or actual opponents during electioneering process. He noted that youths are often engaged by some politicians as instruments of violence to unleash terror on their opponent while the product end is often wanton loss of lives and properties in addition to the concomitant economic set-back.

Ameh said, “we don’t want the future of our children, our developing economy and democracy to be destroyed, therefore, there is need to educate citizens on responsible political conducts. This is the whole essence of this seminar as well as the nationwide enlightenment campaign that we have chosen to embark on, he said. He stated that political tolerance and culture of non-violence appear to be the roadmap that guarantees secured political, economical future in Nigeria.

It is important to have peace because it adds value to national unity and economy. Violent creates a lot of gap, wounds, broken words to persons, groups, society and to us as a people. President (ALPSPN) Dr. Davidson Akhieme, advised the youths that it’s better to save their live for another election because when you are alive you stand to benefit the dividend of democracy. It’s not a thing to die for. You will do your best and be patriotic and come out to vote and then you retire and wait for the result. And if you must be at the pulling boot you must not engage in any acrimonious discussion.

Youths should save their future, the economy by not fomenting troubles no matter who will pay them money to do that, he said.” He also advised the security agents to guard against any form of thuggery at the polling centres. They should not be lenient with offenders during this election process especially the day of election and that is why we advise government to make provision for logistics available for security agents to work well on election day.

In the same vein, Dr. Franca Attoh, Dept. of Sociology, UNILAG, said, “my expectation was that they play their roles according to the dictates of the electoral law. Just like you said, electoral process. It’s not a one off situation. It starts at the level of sensitisation, creation of awareness, and I’m happy the National Orientation Agency is here because it involves a lot of preparation on the side of security agencies.

Jonathan Has Equipped Military More than Previous Leaders- Gen. Usman"

Jonathan Has Equipped Military More than Previous Leaders- Gen. Usman"
Former Defence Adviser to Benin Republic and ex-Adjutant, Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), General Yakubu Usman (retd), said on Saturday that the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan has equipped the military more than any other government in history since independence.
According to the retired General who spoke in Abuja when The Justice for Mandate Group addressed a press conference, admitted that activities of Boko Haram Islamic terrorist group took the military by surprise, but added that recent victories recorded by the military shows that the recently-acquired weapons were yielding results.

According to him, "The situation facing Nigeria did not start today. You can trace it back to decades of neglect. As far the security is concerned, the insurgency started in 2002. They were dislodged and they dispersed. But politicians brought them back for their own use. They used and abandoned them.
"They regrouped and today, we call them Boko Haram. They moved into the North-east and gained ground. Unfortunately, the military was taken back. It was strange to the military back then. What we have today is a situation where Mr. President is trying to acquire sospisticated weapons to tackle the insurgents. Few weeks ago, there were about 14 local governments under the control of Boko Haram. As of today, we only have 3. If the president comes back, he will do more."

Speaking on the directive issued by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Suleiman Abba that voters should leave polling boots after casting their votes, General Usman said: "When people gather and await results after elections, we know the tensions that follow. The view of the Inspector-General of Police was made in good faith. As a security expert, I think it is better for voters to leave after casting their votes. That way, we will be able to minimise crisis."

INEC Wants to Disenfranchise Us, Christians in Bauchi Cry Out"

INEC Wants to Disenfranchise Us, Christians in Bauchi Cry Out"
Less than one week to the general election, Christians in Bauchi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, under the aegis of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have raised the alarm that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is aiming to disenfranchise them by cleverly keeping away the Permanent Voters Card (PVCs) from its members.

Addressing a press conference in Jos, the CAN coordinator for Bauchi local government area, Mr Mako Gwamis, who was flanked by about 14 other Christians, said: “Christians in Bauchi LG are facing threat of being disenfranchised if no action is taken to avert the evil plan.”

He said, “Christian dominated areas in the LG like Bayara, Yelwan Tsakanin, Tsakanin Bayara, Gwallameji, Doka, Kagadama, Yelwan-Tudun, Turum, Miri, Yelwan-Makaranta, Rafin Zurfi, Gudum Sayawa, Gudum Hausa, ECWA-1, to mention but a few, having a population of about 10,000 people, who took their time to stand under the sun and registered for the polls, but not up to 2,000 of them have got their PVCs due to INEC deliberate act to make the cards unavailable to their polling units for distribution.”
Gwamis said voters in these areas are asked to travel INEC local government office at Kofar Ran, a distance of about 40 kilometres to obtain their cards. He added that those who could afford the transport fare and travelled the distance only got stranded at Kofar Ran as they did not get the INEC officials to attend to them.

He queried why the distribution of the PVCs in Christian dominated areas had to be taken to a different location from where they registered, adding that the Christians are suspecting sabotage.

Jonathan: I Will Surely Win the Election, But I'm Not Desperate"

Jonathan: I Will Surely Win the Election, But I'm Not Desperate"
Sounding more confident, President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday affirmed that he would surely win the presidential election scheduled for next Saturday.
Also, the President said at a book launch in Abuja the same day that his quest to continue in office was not borne out of desperation.

In a related development, with seven days to the poll, Kevin, Charlyn and Kimberly Associates: a United Kingdom based research and political risk consultancy firm has projected that Jonathan will win the March 28 poll with a margin of 13 per cent probability ratings.
The President who spoke during an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation said categorically: “I’ll surely win.”
The presidential election is generally expected to be very close with Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) expected to give him a good fight, but Jonathan told the BBC he was confident of winning.
He also spoke on the Boko Haram insurgents, admitting that they were initially underrated by the government.
But now, he said they were getting weaker and all territories under their control would be retaken within a month.
“They are getting weaker and weaker by the day. I’m very hopeful that it will not take us more than a month to recover the old territories that hitherto have been in their hands,” said the President.
While admitting that the authorities had under-estimated the militants, he also reiterated that the military lacked the resources to fight them until now.
Jonathan said that newly acquired military equipment, as well as co-operation with neighbouring countries had helped to push the insurgents out.
On the Chibok girls, he said he was hopeful they are still alive and some of them may be at the Sambisa forest.
My Quest to Serve Not Out of Desperation…
Meanwhile, the President said at a book launch in Abuja that his quest to continue in office was not borne out of desperation.
Jonathan also noted that he had chosen not to be bothered about lot of negative things said or written about him.
The president spoke during a book launch titled, “The People's Choice: The Story of President Goodluck Jonathan," written by Rev. Fr. Charles Imokhai held at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa.
While speaking at the launch, Jonathan said: “My second message is to all of us, especially those of us who are politicians. For all of us who want to serve, we should be ready to serve but we should not be desperate to serve our people.
"Sometimes, people ask me ‘Mr. President, from what we read and what we see, we see you still smiling and unruffled.’ Yes, nothing will really ruffle me because I am willing and ready to serve but I am not desperate to serve. That is what keeps me going.
"All of us who want to hold offices from the least, a counselor of a ward or a chairman of a council, a member of the state House of Assembly or member of House of Representatives, Senate, Governor or the President, if all of us are always ready and willing to serve our people but not desperate in that our mission, then of course Nigeria will be a better place for all of us."
Jonathan described the story of his life as that of humility as captured by the book.
He vowed to continue to implement programmes that would aid young people, as long as he remained president.
He noted that beneficiaries of his administration's YouWin Programme would marvel the country in the next 10 to 15 years.
Jonathan equally expressed confidence that a product of the Almijiri schools established by his government would one day become the President of the country.
"My dream is that one day, a product of Almajiri school will stand here as a President of this country.
"That is why I have been very passionate about education and I use to tell people that I grew up from a very poor background. But luckily Nigeria is not a cast society, if I was to be an Indian, I probably wouldn't even dream of being a commissioner in my state.
" "This is because in a cast society, some people permanently belong to a lower class but Nigeria is an open society. So, you can move from the lowest level to the top but for you to do that one key thing is education and that is why I lay so much emphasis on education.
"That was why when I came here, I decided that every state must have a federal university," Jonathan said.
On the money realised from the launch, the president said it was neither going to his pocket nor that of the Peoples Democratic Party.
He said the organisers planned to set up a foundation and use the proceeds to embark on projects that would impact positively on the country and its citizens.
He however said that further details on the projects had not been made known.
Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.), who acted as the chairman of the book launch said he stood in for Ambassador Yusuff Maitama Sule, who he said had to travel back to Kano to attend to his ailing wife.
He used the opportunity to clear the air on the agreement he reached with the former Biafran leader, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, that was later known as the Aburi Accord.
He explained that Odumegwu-Ojukwu made a statement that was contrary to what they discussed at the venue of the accord.
According to Gowon, Ojukwu was able to accomplish that task because he (Gowon) was down with fever when Odumegwu-Ojukwu returned to make the statement.
"I have seen that you (the author) have gone back in history in your research when Ojukwu and myself had the Aburi Accord.
"I was fascinated by that because I can assure you that that meeting was to break the ice and for all of us allow the military leaders at the time to be able and to agree to be discussing our problems in Nigeria and to solve them.

He added: “I hope all of you here will do the right thing and vote for the people's choice."
The author said he wrote the book to encourage the President to continue with his good works.
The Chief Launcher, Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu, announced a donation of N25 million and another N26 millio on behalf of his friends.

Rabiu also announced a donation of N20 millio on behalf of the co-launcher, Chief Cletus Ibeto, who was said to be abroad at the time of the launch.
Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State bought some copies of the book for members of the state executive council for N20 million and bought a copy each for all state governors for N10 million.
The National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, also bought copies of the book for N10 millio while the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, bought on behalf of women for N5 million.
One Alhaja Hauwa Lawal bought copies for N10 million; Mr. Tunde Ayeni bought for N10 million; Mr. Kola Adesina bought for N12 million and Charles Momoh bought for N5 million.

"Did he perjure himself and lie under oath when he swore to an affidavit that his certificate was with the military?

"What was his role in the killings on the night of July 29, 1966 when 300 Igbo officers, one Yoruba officer and the former Head of State, General Aguiyi-Ironsi were killed in a military coup? Was he one of those who killed one or any of those people on that night and was he involved in the butchering of the primarily Igbo army officers?

"What was his role in the terrible and tragic events that took place in parts of northern Nigeria in 1966 when over 100,000 innocent Igbo civilians were slaughtered including women and children? Is it true that he was among those who supplied arms to those who slaughtered these Igbo civilians?
"What was his role in the massacre and genocide that took place in Asaba in 1969 after the Federal forces re-captured the town of Asaba from the Biafran forces and liberated it?"
Buhari spoke while responding to his endorsement by a delegation of Igbos living in the north under the aegis of Igbo Delegates Assembly (IDA) and said the only way democracy could help to restore peace in the country was to allow the people to elect who they wanted to lead them.

Jonathan commissions Turbine at Egbin Power Station
•Promises Brighter Moments Soon
A FIRM assurance came from President Goodluck Jonathan that Nigeria would soon overcome the problem of epileptic power supply being currently experienced.
Jonathan, while commissioning the 220 megawatts rehabilitated gas turbine at Egbin power station in Lagos, noted that his administration’s power sector reforms was beginning to yield the desired results.
For instance, the President remarked that since he launched the power sector roadmap in 2010 in Lagos, the sector has witnessed remarkable progress with several moribund power stations and plants being rehabilitated while others having their capacities boosted.
For the Egbin power station, the President expressed delight that with the recent rehabilitation, the station can now contribute 1320 megawatts of electricity to the national grid.
“With this rehabilitation, the station has been restored to its full capacity of1320 megawatts for the first time in the history of the facility. Since we launched the roadmap in 2006, I have been encouraged by the progress we have made. And this is part of our transformational efforts in the power sector.
“We are laying a sound foundation for a reliable and sustainable electricity industry. We are diversifying our energy sources. That is why we are exploring the prospects offered by coal and other sources. We can’t claim to be the largest economy in Africa without a stable power industry,” the President said.
Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo commended the President for revitalising most of the power facilities in the country in line with his promise to deliver stable power supply to Nigerians.
He said under Jonathan, the power sector has not only been successfully privatised, it has also contributed significantly to the growth of the economy especially in the area of job creation.
According to the minister, for 16 years, the power sector under National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) and Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) never employed any engineer while under the present transformation, 2000 engineers have been employed.
He described the event as a celebration of privatization.
